45 SUNDAY AUGUST 2 2020 NATHANIEL CHAMBERS Punters do the Hustle as speedy mare delivers the goods in comeback blitz LEO SCHLINK Handicap (1000m) with breathtaking acceleration. Having conquered subsequent The Everest winner Yes Yes Yes on debut at The Valley in 2018, punters latched on to Brooklyn Hustle ($2.25 favourite) as the meeting’s banker – and she duly delivered. Aware of carping doubters, Warren was ecstatic. “It’s just good to have the monkey off our back,” he said. “She’s been carrying a few knockers. She did such a tremendous job last prep. “She was hampered by issues right before she’d had her first start, so to get her back here today in such good order, it’s just a tribute to Rosemont Stud and Mark Young, and my team back at home. She came here today off one soft jump out, and we came here looking to use this run as a second trial going into better races. “So I’m pleased to see her resume, as we knew she was capable of.” Warren indicated that black-type sprints at The Valley were “right on the radar”, but conceded it was a gamble heading to the races on a light preparation. “We’ve had to be patient with her,” he said. “For me, I took a bit of a bold step coming here (yesterday) off one soft jump-out, but I believe in the horse so much and I just feel that she’s on her way up.” Dunn’s masterclass delivered a 3.25-length margin over Propelle ($8.50) and A Good Yarn ($8). “She’s all class. As soon as I cantered off on the track you could see that she’s a machine,” Dunn said. “We’ve seen it before and we need to see it again. “It wasn’t working out that well for me in the early-mid race stages, but you can see the acceleration, that turn-of-foot, and that’s a great asset. “I think (yesterday’s) event was more about getting her confidence back, and getting her back as good as what she was. Hopefully, she can go on to bigger and better things. “That acceleration was awesome, and that sorts the wheat from the chaff. “Lovely filly going forward, and looking forward to it.” FAITH vindicated, Jason Warren now has the freedom to plot an ambitious spring program with Brooklyn Hustle, after the mercurial mare’s devastating comeback victory at The Valley. Off the scene for 39 weeks, Brooklyn Hustle blazed a blistering passage from last under Dwayne Dunn to land the Mark Goring & Adrian Ledger Golf Caroline Masson (GER), Cydney Clanton (USA), Kim Kaufman (USA), Haley Moore (USA), Linnea Johansson (SWE), Jennifer Kupcho (USA), Sarah Schmelzel (USA); Amy Yang (KOR), (AUS), Brittany Lincicome (USA), Cristie Kerr (USA), Morgan Pressel (USA), Lexi Thompson (USA), Azahara Munoz (ESP), Perrine Delacour (FRA), Chien Pei-Yun (TPE), Kwak Min-Seo (KOR), Charlotte Thomas (ENG), Austin Ernst (USA), Liu Yu (CHN), Lindsey Weaver (USA), Albane Valenzuela (SUI), Paula Reto (RSA), Jeon Jiwon (KOR), He Muni (CHN), Madelene Sagstrom (SWE), Gemma Dryburgh (SCO); Katherine Kirk; Sarah Jane Smith (Craig Noone 57m, Jamie at ANZ Stadium.
