SPORT 53 CAIRNSPOST.COM.AU SATURDAY JANUARY 12 2019 Inside pass WIT JOR GE WITH JORDAN GERRANS [email protected] TURN UP THE HEAT AND SHOW WHAT WE’VE GOT TYZONE MAKES RETURN TO THE WINNING ZONE WITH his stable having a quieter day at Innisfail last Saturday, part-owner Tom Hedley made the trip from Cairns to see his gelding Tyzone win at the Gold Coast. Hedley said he and the other owners continue to enjoy every inch of the Tyzone ride. “We bought him through a ready-to-run sale. He won plenty of races up home; we sent him down here and he’s a good little story really,” Hedley said. “(Trainer) Toby (Edmonds) is doing a good job with him and he’s an exciting little horse. We were up to those races in the summer series but we had a bit of bad luck in them and here we are today.” For followers of Tyzone on the punt, it was nice to see him get a victory after a few runs against tougher company. INSIDE Pass urges everyone to get out and support the WBBL game tonight. The NRL decided not to send a game to Cairns in 2019, as did the AFL soon after. And when we tried to get a NEAFL game, even that did not work out. Cricket might be our last chance to have anything decent to watch in the Far North in the short term. The hope is that if a big WBBL crowd turns up tonight, Cricket Australia may hand Cazalys a blokes’ Big Bash game down the line. AUSTRALIA ‘A’ and under-19 wicketkeeper Josie Dooley (above) is one to watch tonight. The impressive youngster made 48 not out last weekend in Mackay after she toured India with Australia ‘A’ last month. LOUD-SHIRT GUY SEEMS TO BE BACK IN TOWN POTIRIS FLEXES COUSIN MUSCLES IN TOP WIN IS THE bloke in the loud Hawaiian shirts at Cairns Taipans games back? Previously a constant fixture at home games, winding up the opposition bench, the man with the loud Hawaiian shirt has not been seen for over a full season. He was there at the first couple of games of the 2017-18 season but only re-emerged on Monday evening against Sydney. He was in a dullish Hawaiian shirt, compared to what he used to wear, but he was spotted hovering around the opposition bench. A VICTORY in a horse race by six-and-aquarter lengths does not happen everyday in north Queensland, so trainer Stephen Potiris was more than pleased with Cousin Muscles’ performance last Saturday. With apprentice Rachel Shred on board, the gelding walked into a win in the last race of the day. “He will now go to Townsville in a Benchmark 65 Handicap mile in a couple of weeks time,” Potiris said. “If we cannot get Stephen Wilson back to ride, I would be happy to get Rachel to ride him again.” ALL cricket fans in the Far North will be hoping Grace Harris can recapture her hitting form from earlier in the tournament. The top-order bat belted an unbeaten 101 off 42 balls, the fastest ton in WBBL history, in December. DELISSA Kimmince (pictured) could easily take to Cazalys Stadium in two sports. The all-rounder has pulled on the green and gold in cricket and also represented the Brisbane Lions in the inaugural AFL Women’s season in 2017. Cairns’ track is within an hour from Mareeba, Atherton and Innisfail; it would be easy to … get the trainers, horses and jockeys home in the same evening.” @reddoye THE topic of night racing at Cairns’ Cannon Park continues to bubble away in the background. The idea has been floated over the last few years but never gained serious momentum.
