Because various types of funding already exist to help cut costs for youth in sports, other age groups – including toddlers, adults and seniors – are often missed, says Sunderland. This is where this new funding will come into play. “We wanted to have something anyone in the community – youth and teenagers too – could access,” she says. DARC is currently raising both awareness and funds for the two projects and will aim to launch both in January. know? The Digby Area Recreation Commission has also embarked on two new projects - #AccessForAll and Digby Active. The first project will offer pay-whatyou-can fitness classes for participants of all ages. While the recommended rate is $5 per class, participants can pay whatever they are able to afford. “Finances can be a barrier to participating. We want people to come and be active, and we don’t want finances to get in the way of that,” says DARC active living manager Cara Sunderland. Classes will be offered across the municipality as part of this project. ■ ■
