NEWS B8 • WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2019 TRICOUNTYVANGUARD.CA CANNABIS EDUCATION ■ Cannabis education spending breakdown • $108.5 million: The federal government’s total planned investment in cannabis public education, awareness and surveillance over six years, which started in the 2017-18 fiscal year. This includes $62.5 million announced in the 2018 budget to support community-based education initiatives, distributed through Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program over five years.
• $33 million: The total amount spent up to the end of 2018 on cannabis education initiatives.
• $18.21 million: How much the federal government, via Health Canada and Public Safety Canada, has spent on its own public education campaigns up to the end of 2018.
• $14.8 million: The total amount distributed to community-based and Indigenous organizations for cannabis education through Health Canada’s substance use and addictions program up to the end of 2018.
• $2.4 million: Funding allocated so far to cannabis education projects in the Atlantic region through the substance use and addictions program.
