Description

As You Like It is a pastoral comedy play by William Shakespeare. It is believed to have been written in 1599 and first published in the First Folio in 1623. The play follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees from her uncle's court to the Forest of Arden to find her love, Orlando. She is accompanied by her cousin Celia and Touchstone the Fool, and disguises herself as a young man before revealing her true self at the end of the play. In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveller, Jaques, who speaks one of Shakespeare’s most famous monologues. The play is still widely performed and has been adapted for stage, screen, and radio.
