Julius Caesar, or, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a history play and tragedy by William Shakespeare. The play dramatizes the story of the conspiracy to assassinate the Roman leader, Julius Caesar, and the consequences of his assassination. It was first published in the collection known as the First Folio in 1623 but is likely to have been performed as early as 1599. This story of political intrigue and its dangers is one of Shakespeare’s most well known and quoted works.
